Your initial consultation begins as all new patient assessments do – with a number of forms! While tedious, these forms provide the practitioner with important information both relating to the current complaint as well as any additional, pertinent medical information.

During your first visit, you can expect to have your practitioner’s full attention. A thorough medical history will be taken. During this process, it is important to gain as much insight into your overall health as possible. This involves asking several questions- some relating to your complaint and some not.

Following our history, we will proceed to a physical examination. While also thorough, our exam is hands-on, focused on your complaint, and based on your own comfortability. Physical examinations are meant to reproduce the discomfort that you’re experiencing, without causing pain, to give us a better understanding of where the issue is coming from. Sometimes this means referral to another health care provider in the event that the complaint falls out of the chiropractic scope of practice (See Scope of Practice and Authorized Acts).

If following the history and physical exam you are considered a candidate for chiropractic care, it’s time for the fun stuff! We will provide you with a report of findings including our clinical impression of your complaint (diagnosis), plan of management, risks and benefits of care, any potential alternatives, and your personal goals for the treatment plan. This is also a good time to ask any questions (though you can stop us at any time with questions!). After obtaining your informed consent to treatment, we are ready to proceed to treatment.

Our ideal is that we are able to proceed with treatment on the initial, however, every patient and complaint is individual and must be taken into consideration when making the decision to go ahead with treatment on the same day or not.

The initial consultation takes approximately 1 hour.
